Snow
It's snowing quite a bit here right now. I love the snow. It looks so amazing. I really hope there isn't school today, because I could use some sleep and some time to enjoy the snow with some friends. I don't have much to say right now, but maybe I'll write more tomorrow. I'm not even sure why I decided to write this much today, I just felt compelled. Later.

Film Party
On Saturday I went over to my friend Dave's house for a party. Not a party like those we usually have, but a film party. It was an interesting event to say the least. We we're planning on watching three "films." The term films here is used here in quotations because apparently there is a big difference between films and movies. I don't see the difference, but from what I gather film is a word people who are too stuck up are starting to describe artsy movies. I don't agree with the specification between the two. But what do I know.
Anyway, we ended up watching two movies: Eraserhead and The Protector. I would have to say that these two movies are complete opposites. First we have Eraserhead which is possibly the strangest movie I have ever seen. I am told it was David Lynch's senior project, and I have to say, if I was his teacher I would have failed him.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for things that are artistic and express how someone is feeling, but I think that this movie would have done well to have some semblance of coherence. I understand that he was trying to do something different, but what was going on in this movie. None of it was symbolic or meaningful. It offered no insight into life or human nature. It was, as my friend Seth explained "senseless."
Seth was also the person who brought the movie, and he explained that that was why the movie is good. Not a good enough reason for me though. Not one of my favorites. If you can explain this movie to me, please do, as no one there could, and we are certainly all still wondering.
The Protector on the other movie we watched and it is senseless story wise. The whole point of the movie is to be a vehicle for Tony Jaa to break people's arms. I understand that, and i admit it was pretty cool, but if I ever wanted to see him kicking ass I would have typed his name into Youtube and surely gotten plenty to satisfy me.
So overall I think it was kind of a bust. While it was a good idea in theory, I think the movies we watched ended up ruining it for me. I'd like to do it again, but with different movies this time. Until next time, goodbye.

Family and TV
Last night I got to hang out with my girlfriend and her brother and sister. When she first asked me to go, I'll admit I was a bit nervous about it. I don't normally do well in family situations, but I have to say I had a lot of fun. About half way through the week I decided to go, and I'm really glad I did. I think the difference is in who's family it is. My family is no where near as real or nice as my girlfriend's.
Now on to other things. I guess I'll talk about TV for a bit, because it's one of the things I do most. I don't have cable or anything, so these might be different in the event I had it, as there is a lot of other stuff I would watch, but don't.
On Mondays I watch How I Meet Your Mother and The Class on CBS and Heroes and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip on NBC. How I meet your mother is pretty brilliant. It's a simple sitcom, but the characters are really endearing and the writing is superb. Probably one of the best kept secrets at the network. The Class isn't quite up to its level yet, but it's new and getting better. Still a bit cheesy, but it has potential and it's growing on me.
Heroes is easily one of my favorite TV shows of all time. I love the story and characters to the point where I actually feel compelled to go online and discuss it with other fans. My only complaint is that the episodes only come once a week. Studio 60 is also really good TV. The writing feels fresh and the story always keeps me guessing.
Tuesdays and Wednesday I don't really watch TV, but I hear good things about House. American Idol is also entertaining in the first few weeks when everyone sucks. That's about it though. Someone should put something good on these nights and maybe I'd watch.
Thursday I watch all of NBC's lineup minus ER. This includes My Name is Earl, The Office, Scrubs, and 30 Rock. My Name is Earl started strong in season 1 but I think has dropped off a bit this season. There are still some episodes that keep me watching though.
The Office is easily my favorite show on TV. The writing is fantastic and the timing and story keep me laughing every week. What I really hate is the people who don't watch this show because they watched the British version and say this one is inferior. Those people must not watch the show, because I've seen the British version and I'd have to say that the American version has caught up to, and dare I say surpassed, the British version. You owe it to yourself to watch this show.
Scrubs has been a favorite of mine since its inception. Season 5 disappointed me a bit, but season 6 is making up for it in spades. 30 Rock is of course a new show this year that started on Wednesdays and moved to Thursday recently. And am I ever glad it did. At first I thought the show was a bit iffy, but it's proven me wrong with a lot of solid episodes and characters that you can't find anywhere else.
Friday night is pretty empty too, but I'm normally out and about, so it doesn't bother me much. 1 vs 100 is pretty good though, from what I've seen. In a sort of innocent guilty pleasure kind of way. Saturday is no good except Saturday Night Live and if I have to explain tat then go away.
Sunday I normally watch Fox. The Simpsons, War at Home, Family Guy, and American Dad. All are solid in their own ways and each bring something unique to the table. I recommend them, even thought the quality has gone down a tad as of late it seems.
Of course as an Insomniac I catch a lot of late night TV. I watch NBC's lineup here too. This includes The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night With Conan O'Brian, Last Call with Carson Daly, and Poker After Dark. Jay Leno is okay, but I'm looking forward to Conan's takeover. Conan of course is brilliant. His comedy is universal and hilarious. You really have to love his interview style and great monologue.
Carson Daly has also surprised me a lot. Not only that he has lasted five years now, but that he actually pulls the show off really well. I remember first hearing about it and thinking it would be really dumb, I mean he was on TRL for crying out loud, but he really does good unique work. And Poker After Dark is new. At first I was mad that it pushed back Leno reruns, but I've gotten around to liking it now. I already like poker, and now I get to see it every night.
That's pretty much it. Other that what is listed I watch PBS a lot. Shows like Nova and Antiques Road Show are really enjoyable. Until next time. Peace.
P.S. If you have any interest I write video game reviews sometimes for a site called Video Games Reloaded. You can find the site here: http://www.vg-reloaded.com/modules/view.php
Let me know what you think. I may start posting reviews both there ad here. If I ever get around to writing them again.

Lonely
Lately I've been feeling very alone. I think my beliefs are driving lots of my friends away. It's really hard, because I don't want to compromise what I believe in, but I really don't want to lose them.
My being an Atheist, and quite a prolific one at that, seems to be the main cause. A lot of them keep calling me an asshole because I speak my beliefs with out holding back. Maybe they're right, and I am picking fights. I really don't try to start debates though. I think most of the time it comes up because of something they say, and I make a remark back that angers them.
It's a shame really, because I really do like to debate y side. It seems many of them however can't stand to deal with my logic. I don't really have a solution at this time. I'm not going to change ad neither are they. I'm just feeling really lonely right now and it feels good to tell someone about it, even if in doing so I'm really telling no one.
I am really glad for the friends I do have now though. Life is really scary for me and they are pretty good support, even when they seem distant. I've missed a lot of school lately, but I'm about caught up. College is looming forward. But I think now it is time for sleep. Goodnight.

Time
I feel bad because I've been neglecting my blog for a while. It's not that I have forgotten about it, it's just that I don't have much time to write anything lately. School has been pretty hectic, and by the time my mind comes to blogging, it's about time for me to go to sleep. The good thing is that I'm getting all my work done for the first time in a long time, and that is boding well for my grades. And I've been sleeping pretty well too. I'll write more later, but right now I'm really tired. Goodnight.
